Hendrix Experts: Which amp for Voodoo Chile (Long Blues Jam) Tone?

I tried to search for this info but without much luck so if it's already been asked please excuse me. I've been looking for an amp that will get me the tone Jimi achieved on the 15 min version of Voodoo Chile on the Electric Ladyland album. I know there was a lot of studio 'magic' that Eddie Kramer and company imparted on these recordings but let's focus on the amp tone. To me it has the perfect clarity, depth, sweet and slightly compressed roundness, and breakup that I've been looking for. I'm no expert but I'd guess it's a late 50's tweed Bassman?
Anyway, my goal here is to find an amp primarily for multi-dimensional cleans but can grind it out when pushed as Mr. Hendrix did on this number. I've been looking at vintage tweed Fenders, i.e. Deluxe, Pro, and Bassman...but I fear the latter would be too loud and heavy for most gigs, no? I'm also looking at boutiques so any information/recommendations anyone might have would be really helpful. Thanks!

Now which speakers to use with it.There's lots of pictures of JIMI performing with bassman stacks.
Really you're going to have to figure out what cab and or spkrs he used for that.

One thing I just wanted to point out, a large part of his sound in that fantastic song (it is one of my all time favorite) are added in the studio I believe, reverb and echo.
I think the guitar is going to have a lot to say (and of course as mentioned, your fingers) and which pickups you have...where you strike the strings at different times, and that fuzz is amazing..just perfectly set and smooth...when he really gets going they add more echo, which fits it all again...perfect.
But that said, a lot of those tones can be gotting with different amps. If you want to recreate it, I would use an amp that had an effects loop...in fact the Hot Rod DeVille clean channel can sound pretty close to my ears when set right. I would use reverb and delay/echo.
Much of the "tone" is just the way he plays. But you have to start with a great clean sound. I have also gotten near it with a Carvin Vintage 33 on clean channel. Really..

I read somewhere that he used a 30-35w brown or blonde piggyback Bassman on that cut but I can't remember where I read it. It sticks in my mind because that is probably my favorite cut of all time.
+1 on the Blonde Bassman. I get real close with my Germino Classic 45 but any Amp in the Bassman/JTM45 realm will get you there IMO

I'd wager any 35w+ fender head from '62-76 cranked up fairly loud thru a 4x12 would get that sound....or a jtm45/50/100/superbass

However, I like Eric Gales' tone from his version of Voodoo Chile (on the 2000 'Blue Haze' album), better than the original.
I think Eric uses Rivera amps.

Buddy Guy gets as close as anyone I've ever heard on a few solos from his Sweet Tea album, and that was recorded straight into a cranked 80w Victoria high power tweed Bassman clone...here's a bit on them from Tonequest Report:
TQR: Buddy Guy gets a huge sound out of just one Victoria 80W 80410 Bassman with no pedals that I've ever noticed. When you initially began speaking to him about using your amps, did he experiment between the 4x10 Bassman and the low-powered Twin at all?
All he was ever interested in was the Bassman. He wasn't happy with his rig and his management company call and invited us to bring a couple of amps down to his club in Chicago. So we did that, and a few days later I got a call again and they said Buddy wanted to meet me. Well, I go, and I'm escorted up to the VIP room and Buddy is doing an interview or something and as soon as he was introduced to me he stops the interview and says, "I just want to shake your hand and congratulate you. The minute I plugged my guitar into that amplifier you brought, I heard things that I hadn't heard since I was using my old Bassman. I just want you to know that you've really done a great job." I thought, "Oh my God, what's wrong with this picture? My idol is telling me this?" But what Buddy really liked about our amp was the fact that it sounded like his old Bassman amps. He still has two old Bassmans, but their kept at his house.
TQR: That must have been a moment of glory for you after all of the years of work you'd devoted to recreating the Bassman. Yeah, it was a validation of what we had been doing, and I had been telling people that the Victorias really do sound like the old amps, but to hear it from a guy as influential as Buddy certainly was important. Now, the development of the 80W Bassman came about because Buddy was really tired of carrying 4 amps around on the road-2 reissue Bassmans and 2 of ours. So the idea for the 80410 came about from his roadies, and we basically mated 4 10's with the high-power Twin. The original circuits for both amps are essentially the same-in fact, the output transformer for the Twin is the equivalent of 2 Bassman transformers combined. But by far and away Buddy uses the 45410 Bassman for most of his gigs, reserving the 80410 for outdoor venues and big stages.

you can't buy that. forget it. you can get a marshall jtm combo and work on it. if you played jimi's rig, you couldn't get that tone. that's in his fingers. work on your tone.
